Rich History

Lafayette Club is a rare retreat for all seasons and occasions!

Members and guests alike continue to be drawn to this unique club! Located about 20 minutes west of Minneapolis on 38 acres along the shore of Lake Minnetonka, Lafayette Club's roots go back to the first hotel which was built by railroad magnate James J Hill and opened on July 2, 1882. It was a grand opening, indeed. Billed as "the finest hotel west of New York City", the building covered nearly 5 acres and had hallways that were 10 feet wide, three grand staircases, 300 guest rooms, and a staff of 150 people. It hosted General Ulysses S. Grant, Vice President Adlai Stevenson, President Chester Arthur, President William Howard Taft, and many governors of the State of Minnesota. Vice President Adlai Stevenson lived in one of our cottages on the grounds. President Chester Arthur actually used the Hotel Lafayette for a summer White House!

Unfortunately, in 1897 the Hotel Lafayette was destroyed by a fire. Two years later Mr. Hill deeded the land to the founders of Lafayette Club in 1899 and, for more than 20 years, Lafayette returned as the center of social activities on Lake Minnetonka. That clubhouse was enjoyed by members and guests for two decades before it, too, burned down in 1922.

This beautiful hilltop was never destined to remain empty for long, though. Lafayette's unique Spanish Mission-style clubhouse was built in 1924 and, over the past century, has evolved from a majestic hotel to a distinguished gathering place. Today, we continue to preserve our long-standing history while providing a comfortable atmosphere for our current members and their guests to play sports, dine, socialize, and celebrate- all with beautiful lake views.

Lafayette Club Membership Types

Golf

With a Golf Membership, you have full access to all the amenities and activities Lafayette has to offer.

• Delight in extraordinary beauty, friendly people and great golf! Play nine holes in just two hours on our private lakeside course, improve your form with a lesson from one of our PGA pros, participate in a league, or practice your game on the lakeside driving range or putting area.
• Play a set of tennis on one of our 5 Har Tru (clay) courts, 2 Pro-Bounce (cushioned hard courts), 5 pickleball courts, 2 platform courts, and 3 POP Tennis courts, enhance your tennis fundamentals with a lesson from one of our USTA professionals, participate in our well organized programs, and play year-round!
• Join one of our aquatic lesson sessions in our indoor and outdoor pools plus relax in the sauna, steam room and whirlpool.
• Stay fit and healthy with the use of our private 2,400 square foot Fitness Center overlooking the lake that is filled with Life Fitness strength equipment. Sign up for weekday fitness classes led by an ACE Fitness Trainer.
• Indulge in private formal or casual dining six days each week, convenient to-go ordering delivered to your car or boat, and cater your parties at home or the office.
• Enjoy a wonderful variety of special events and themed activities for all ages and interests throughout the year.
• Host a reception, banquet, party, or business meeting with the help of our professional event planner and pay no room rental fee.
• Experience our family-friendly atmosphere with a variety of junior programs designed to help kids develop athletic skills while having fun and making friends.
• Reserve dock space in one of our complimentary 22 slips and travel to the Club by boat.
  

Racquet Sports

With a Tennis Membership, you have full access to all tennis facilities, pools, fitness center, dining, and social events.

• Play a set of tennis on one of our 5 Har Tru (clay) courts, 2 Pro-Bounce (cushioned hard courts), 5 pickleball courts, and 2 platform courts, enhance your tennis fundamentals with a lesson from one of our USTA professionals, participate in our well organized programs, and play year-round!

We'll customize your ceremony and reception to fit your specific preferences, as well as your budget, for a celebration as unique as you are. We offer unique spaces for up to 500 guests, fully customizable menus, gorgeous year-round lake views, and a friendly professional staff to service your event from start to finish.

• Classic Crystal Ballroom that has hosted celebrations for over 100 years! It includes an enclosed veranda overlooking Crystal Bay, gleaming hardwood floors and two large crystal chandeliers for an event space that looks nothing like a conference room.
• Lakeview Room adjoining the Ballroom features a 1200 square foot deck perfect for cocktails and socializing, as well as large windows that overlook the lake.
• Outdoor Crystal Bay Garden for your scenic lakeside ceremony and photos.
• Fabulous bridal suite featuring a pedestal base surrounded with large mirrors, 5 vanities, full kitchen, and a private deck so your wedding party can relax while getting ready for your big day.

Crystal Ballroom

Features an unobstructed polished hardwood floor, two crystal chandeliers and a window-filled sun porch overlooking Crystal Bay. This dramatic room is perfect for receptions, dinners, holiday parties, and large seminars.

Normal Seating capacity: 350*

* Adjoining doors can be opened to the Lakeview Room. These two rooms have a combined space of over 6,000 square feet and offer a seating capacity for up to 500.

This beautifully appointed formal room features four crystal chandeliers, large floor to ceiling windows for beautiful lake views, a large deck, and an optional 15x20 portable dance floor. It's ideal for luncheons, dinners and cocktail hour.

Normal Seating Capacity: 250*

* Adjoining doors can be opened to the Crystal Ballroom. This combined space has over 6,000 square feet and a seating capacity of up to 500 people.

Aptly named for its view of Lake Minnetonka’s pristine bay, we are so excited to offer an outdoor lakeside venue for your special event! Imagine you and your guests nestled in a picturesque setting enjoying the splendor of the sun shining off the water, toasting under the stars, or sharing a magnificent sunset. Everyone will have a great time when Mother Nature helps host your wedding day.

Seating Capacity: 250

Located in the lower level of the clubhouse, this room features large windows with lake views, a woodburning fireplace, beautiful built-in bar, and outside access to a small patio. This room is perfect for a wide range of group sizes and events.

Seating Capacity: 35 - 125

This secluded room is conveniently located above the Dining Room and offers privacy for small collaborative meetings.
